Our Investees
The focus areas for investment that SVPC has selected include public education, affordable housing, healthcare and the environment. These focus areas are selected by the Partners based on the community's needs and the Partners' personal interests and passions. Since our beginning in 2005, over eighty individuals have committed their time, talents and over $470,000 to impact the community significantly in these issue areas. Our current Investees are listed below.
Nurse Family Partnership Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) is an evidence-based, nurse home visitation program that improves the health, well-being and self-sufficiency of first-time, low-income parents and their children. NFP nurse home visitors provide education and family support during the child's first two years, working to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development and the economic self-sufficiency of the family. Mecklenburg County first implemented NFP through a pilot program in 2008 that currently serves 101 families. SVPC funded a two-year grant (in collaboration with Council for Children's Rights) for a Project Director for the NFP program in Mecklenburg County. The NFP project director will develop and implement a strategic plan for expanding and sustaining the capcacity of the NFP program in the county to reach a population large enough to yield substantial, quantifiable health and economic benefits in the community. SVPC Partners serve on an NFP Advisory Board to assist in strategic oversight of the program as well as participate in focus area work groups. Habitat Critical Home Repair (HCHR)
HCHR is a new initiative of Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, Inc. This program is designed to decrease substandard housing conditions for those with limited resources by providing urgent, critical home repairs (defined as a major floor or roof repair), The program works intensively with families to rectify housing code violations, keeping homes safe and protecting Charlotte's affordable housing stock. Individuals receiving service must own and occupy the home being repaired and earn less than 50% of the HUD median income for Mecklenburg County. Additionally, the individual must be willing to repay HCHR for the work based on a mutually agreed upon monthly payment and to provide community service. SVPC's grant allowed HCHR to hire a second site supervisor to manage additional projects, create construction training courses to leverage their volunteer network and increase overall capacity of the program. SVPC Partners will assist HCHR in the strategic planning and growth of the program, serving on oversight, construction and marketing committees. SVPC Lead Partner: Stewart Boswell Program Contact:
