Maria and Henry’s journey began in Venezuela, where they met and earned their engineering degrees. Their shared passion for learning led them to the United States, where they pursued master’s degrees at UNC Chapel Hill. After graduation, Maria dedicated herself to raising their children, Cristy, and Hank, before discovering a new calling in education. She found fulfillment in teaching computer science at community colleges, inspiring her to further her education with a second master’s and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. Maria’s career culminated in her role as Dean of Applied Science and Technology at South Piedmont Community College.
Henry’s professional path took him through diverse industries, including manufacturing, banking, and technology maintenance. This varied experience provided him with a unique perspective that he now applies to his role as lead partner of SVP’s Spark Team program.
In retirement, Maria and Henry remain active in their community. Maria serves on the boards of GenOne, Charlotte Bilingual Preschool, and Wingate University’s Board of Trustees. Henry has contributed his time and expertise as Board Chair for ZABS Place and currently leads the board of Assist ME.
The couple’s involvement with Social Venture Partners (SVP) was inspired by their daughter, Cristy Travaglino. For Maria and Henry, SVP represents an opportunity to give back to society and continue making a positive impact in the community.
