David Crane joined the Board of Social Venture Partners Charlotte in August of 2023. With an extraordinary career journey that spans forty years across diverse companies, David brings a wealth of experience and a passion for helping companies grow profitably while making a positive impact in the local community.
David’s professional career commenced at Bain & Company, where he honed his skills in operational analysis and business strategy. Following this, he embarked on a remarkable journey as the Founder, entrepreneur and CEO of several publicly and privately held companies, culminating as a Partner with Harbourpoint Capital, a private equity firm specializing in healthcare services companies. Throughout his illustrious career, David has demonstrated an uncanny ability to build and nurture profitable enterprises, cementing his status as a seasoned business leader.
After a successful career, David retired as a Partner at Harbourpoint choosing to refocus his time, expertise, and passion to supporting select local/regional nonprofits and their leaders in the Charlotte community. This commitment to driving positive change is what drew him to SVP Charlotte.
David has held leadership roles in For-Profit public and private corporate Boards (fifteen in total over thirty five years) as well as nonprofit organizations including Charlotte Latin School, Actors Theater of Charlotte, and Temple Beth El. His active involvement in the arts and entertainment community as an avid supporter of theater and live music showcases his multifaceted interests and commitment to enriching the cultural landscape. He is currently one of the owners and on the Board of Middle C Jazz, a music venue in downtown Charlotte, as well as an advisor and donor to ReadCharlotte. David earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Beyond his professional accomplishments, David and his wife Cindy are proud parents of three adult children and have a beloved granddaughter, all of whom reside in three separate eco-systems of California.
