SVP Investee Mid-Year Report: GardHouse
GardHouse, an SVP Investee, and a 2023 SEED20 alumni is rapidly transforming the landscape for underserved college students by creating a clear path to employment. In just over a year, they’ve achieved remarkable milestones and made a tangible impact on students’ lives.
Financial Stability and Growth
A cornerstone of GardHouse’s success is its ability to secure funding for internships. The organization achieved its fundraising goals for all fall 2024 internships and is well on track to do the same for spring 2025. By providing subsidies to organizations unable to fund internships fully, GardHouse ensures that more students have opportunities to gain valuable work experience.
Expanding Opportunities
GardHouse has significantly increased internship placements. With 23 interns set to start this fall, compared to 12 in spring 2024, the organization is expanding access to career-building experiences. Moreover, GardHouse has forged partnerships with new employers, creating additional pathways for students. Through the support of SVP Partners, the organization is actively cultivating relationships with industry leaders like Food Lion, TowneBank, Wingate University, SEED20 Headline SponsorWells Fargo, and SVP’s corporate partner RSM to open even more doors for its interns.
Strengthening the Foundation
SVP has been instrumental in bolstering GardHouse’s governance and strategic direction. By clarifying board responsibilities, recruiting new members, and facilitating a productive board retreat, SVP has helped strengthen the organization’s leadership. Notably, six new board members have joined GardHouse, including one valuable connection made through the SVP network.
Student Success Stories
The heart of GardHouse’s mission is preparing students for their careers. By connecting young talent with meaningful internships, the organization is helping students explore their passions and build the skills necessary for professional success. A prime example is Sydney, a recent graduate who secured a research internship at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). Sydney’s journey embodies GardHouse’s commitment to helping students achieve their full potential in their chosen career field.
GardHouse’s achievements in its first year as an SVP Investee are truly energizing. With continued support, the organization is poised to become a leading force in creating equitable opportunities for underserved college students.
