Emmanuel Threatt of Hope Vibes will be joining the conversation as we discuss Evicted by Matthew Desmond. In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.
Hope Vibes was founded in 2016 by Adrienne and Emmanuel Threatt to bring awareness, hope and real solutions to the homeless epidemic in the Charlotte-Metrolina region by providing dignity through personal hygiene products, mobile laundry/shower vehicles and conversation. During SEED20 2019, Emmanuel presented on The Hope Tank, an eco-friendly mobile shower and laundry center. The Hope Tank will include 2 bathroom stalls with a shower, sink and toilet in each unit an d a laundry room equipped with 3 washer/dryer units. Through a grant from the African American Foundation, Hopes Vibes has been able to purchase the box truck that will be retrofitted for this project.
We look forward to joining you in the conversation!
