May Snapshots
SVP stayed busy in May supporting Charlotte’s Nonprofit Community through a variety of hands-on engagements.
- Baking for Change: On May 11th, SVP staff and local podcasters Stuart Watson and Francine Marie spent the day baking bread with Kim Alexander’s Our Daily Bread Foundation, this year’s winner of SEED20 Coaching Award. Between mixing ingredients and making focaccia from scratch, the participating teens and the chefs shared how they became involved with the program and the dramatic impact it continues to have on their lives.
- Strategic Planning Support: On May 13th, SVP members met with the staff and board members of Investee Youth Meditation in the home of Harrison and Margaret Marshall. During our working dinner meeting, Spark Team project leader John Pesavento walked the group through a full SWOT analysis, which will used as the building blocks for Youth Meditation’s new Strategic Plan.
- Corporate Partner Spotlight: Lastly SVP Corporate Partner RSM hosted a lunch and learn with about 25 of their employees on May 16th which focused on the needs of young people experiencing family and housing insecurity in the Charlotte area. Both of the featured organizations were SEED20 alumni. Trish Hobson spoke on behalf of The Relatives (2012), and Katy Motsinger spoke on behalf of Children’s Attention Home (2024), which won this year’s Community Vote and Wells Fargo Grand Prize Awards. Both leaders shared the challenges these young people face, which include insecure housing, malnutrition, mental health issues, social stigma, difficulty in obtaining a high school diploma or G.E.D, and their risks for sex trafficking. These organizations do more than provide care and services to this population, they save lives. SVP is proud to lift up and support their important work.
