No man is an island.
To many, this is no more than a cliché. Trite as it may seem though, it is true. Those of us who have dedicated our lives to service know that even the mightiest benefactor with a seemingly endless supply of talents and resources must eventually turn to their friends, family, and community members for support in their journey of fulfilling dreams and meeting needs. How fortunate, thankful, and proud I am SEED20 came to my shores, helping me to better serve the families of my co-founded charity: The Sandbox.
I co-founded The Sandbox so members of our community can know they are important, thought about, and when they need it, will be cared for. It is surreal how closely my experiences with SEED20 mirror this philosophy. SEED20 reinforced to my cohorts and I that the work we are striving to accomplish is indeed important; it provided me with adaptable tools, knowledge, and assistance when I needed it most; and my professional needs were met and recognized with respect and enthusiasm.
From SEED20 I gained valuable tools that have helped further the programs and outreach of my organization. Thanks to knowledgeable coaches and a supportive, astute network of professionals made accessible by SEED20, The Sandbox is moving forward in sustainability and service to more families than ever through our Love Baskets initiative – a community based donation program that gets much needed resources- from food and clothing to gas cards and cleaning supplies- to our honorees and their families.
Shortly after attending workshops with SEED20 I began working with Richard Sedory to manifest my vision for love baskets. With Richard’s help through Wastequip and Toter, The Sandbox has successfully unveiled it’s one of a kind Love Basketsm this year and is in the process of partnering with community members, local business and organizations on collection, donation, and distribution. The team at Toter has shared my intense passion and enthusiasm for The Sandbox and the work it does since the beginning. It is an honor to have them as partners in serving our families.
As The Sandbox moves forward in its mission, I will take with me the tools and lessons of SEED20. With their assistance, The Sandbox team can continue its work in ensuring no child or family ever has to feel like they are an island, taking on the waves of struggle alone. The Sandbox will be there #believing so that our honorees and their families can begin #healing. For your contribution to this experience, SEED20, I thank you.
